Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. The Group Legal and Compliance (GLCT) function of Barratt Developments plc, based in Coalville, Leicestershire, is run by a progressive and innovative Head of Legal who is committed to developing a dynamic legal support function. The team is primed to meet the existing, and future, needs of the business.
The Group Legal function within Barratt Redrow is evolving and as part of that, the need for an experienced compliance lawyer to steer and advise the business on matters of legal compliance has been identified. The overall primary purpose of the role is to ensure the business is effectively equipped to operate in compliance with legal regulations and internal compliance policies
You will be expected to:
- proactively reviewing, updating and maintaining the company’s legal ethics & compliance policies to ensure these align with current laws and regulation, such policies covering matters such as anti-money laundering, anti-bribery & corruption, data protection, modern slavery, competition and other sector specific regulations
- evaluating the company’s current operational controls, processes and procedures in relation to matters of legal compliance, identifying areas of improvement and, working in collaboration with members of the wider group legal team and the business, ensuring efficient and effective implementation of any modifications or improvements identified, offering up ideas and suggestions as to appropriate changes which could be made
- regularly reviewing and updating training, guidance and other relevant materials available to the business, to facilitate effective understanding and operation of the business in accordance with the legal ethics and compliance landscape relevant to the business
- dealing with and advising on issues of non-compliance, engaging and managing suitably qualified external lawyers and experts as appropriate, to effectively address the same
- ·overseeing and directing the activities of the data subject access request administrators, to ensure the business is able to effectively and efficiently comply with its GDPR obligations
- reporting issues of non-compliance to the Group Head of Legal and assisting the Group Head of Legal with compliance reporting requirements of the Executive, the Board and other committees.
The successful candidate will have the support of the wider team members to assist with the above. Likewise, the successful candidate will be expected to assist the wider team at peak times with the more general workload, as appropriate.
