What you'll be doing?

Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships.
 
While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.

The position of Senior Solution Engineer has responsibility for solution design (low level), development, configuration, unit testing and (where applicable) integration across our IT Platforms, to a high quality and in-line with our code standards and specifications. The role requires significant experience of solution engineering with IT Platforms, particularly the Microsoft Power Platform, COINS APIs and A-Site mobile applications, as well as expertise in modern system integration technologies and techniques including Cloud Integration, RESTFUL Integration, Data Bricks, SOAP, Web API, Jitterbit and Azure Service Bus.

The position reports directly into the Technical Delivery Lead and a hybrid approach to location will be provided. Some travel to our operating Divisions, Executive office in London and supplier locations may also be required.

You will be expected to:

• Responsible for taking the lead solution engineering role in design (low level), development, configuration, unit testing and (where applicable) integration activities across their allocated BAU/ Small Change Workstreams and Projects/ Programmes.

• Work closely with the Technical Delivery Lead and Project/ Programme Managers to provide estimates and contribute to planning for all solution engineering activities.

• Work closely with business stakeholders, other Group IT teams and partners to ensure that high quality solutions are delivered that meet business and non-functional requirements.

• Actively contribute to all phases of design, development and testing of front-end and back-end solution components.

• Conduct thorough and realistic unit testing of solutions developed, prior to handing over to the Quality Assurance Team. Look for opportunities to automate this unit testing wherever possible and take a ‘right first time’ approach to ensure minimal defects and the highest possible test script pass rates.

• Assist with solution deployment activities and post-implementation testing, always following the Change Management/ CAB approval process.

• Prioritise workload and provide regular progress updates to the Technical Delivery Lead, ensuring that solution engineering activities are completed within agreed time, cost and quality parameters.

• Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the Barratt Redrow IT Solution Architecture.

• Keep up to date with emerging solution engineering approaches and current events in the IT industry to enhance Barratt Redrow’s overall IT capability.

• Act as deputy for the Technical Delivery Lead from time to time.

Qualifications & Experiences

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of leading solution engineering activities and consistently delivering high quality IT Platforms in a similar FTSE/ Corporate environment. They will also likely have the following qualifications and experience:

• Strong academic record, most likely with graduate level education.

• Strong written and verbal communication ability.

• Strong analytical capability, with the ability to solve complex problems.

• Extensive experience of solution engineering delivery across a range of IT Platforms, particularly the Microsoft Power Platform/ Dynamics, COINS APIs and A-Site mobile applications, but also including Lansa, IBM DB2, C#, ASP.NET, XML, JavaScript, Azure Data Factory, SQL Server and Sitecore.

• Where applicable, extensive experience of solution integration delivery using modern technologies and techniques including Cloud Integration, RESTFUL Integration, Data Bricks, SOAP, Web API, Jitterbit and Azure Service Bus.

• Extensive experience of utilising the Microsoft Azure DevOps tool to schedule, manage and track progress of solution engineering tasks as part of the software development lifecycle.

• In-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle and a range of IT Platform delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Agile etc).

• Strong understanding of IT Platform delivery best practices including SCM, build pipeline configuration and processes, code quality and Test Automation methodologies.

• Experienced in working closely with Product Owners, Senior Managers and other delivery teams, with demonstrable understanding of collaborating to analyse, design, develop, test and implement complex IT Platforms.

• A good understanding of ITIL practices in the context of solution engineering, service transition and post-delivery operations.

• Ability to establish, develop and maintain effective relationships with Group IT, partner and business stakeholders.

• Experience of working within large-scale IT change portfolios and of engineering and integrating IT Platforms within large, complex and distributed organisations such as Barratt Redrow.

• Ability to translate technical details into language easily understood by business stakeholders.

• Ability to read and comprehend system-level documents including technical specifications, database schemas and data dictionaries.

• Strong knowledge of applications and technologies utilised within the construction industry.
