What you'll be doing?

 The Group Commercial Manager ensures that cost saving initiatives are being driven by the Group Surveying Managers across all Divisional offices; reviewing cost data analysis produced by the Group Surveying Managers for reporting to the business; oversee systems training and support to Divisional offices; ensure Group Surveying Managers are reviewing compliance with the Group systems, policies, processes and procedures consistently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Group Surveying Managers to ensure they collaborate closely with the Divisional Commercial Directors and Commercial Managers to serve as a subject matter expert, overseeing and facilitating various activities, from cost planning to post-land viability analysis, all executed through the Company's IT systems and Commercial Policy and Procedures.
  • Complete periodic reviews of business tools and documents to ensure these are being maintained, ensuring data accuracy and reliability, ensuring these tools and documents are updated to sharing platforms. Including, but not limited to, land viability template, plot profitability matrix, MMC modelling tools and Bill of Quants import builder.
  • Ensure that Group Surveying Managers are providing all necessary support and guidance for the accurate implementation of new site setup procedures, tendering, awarding processes, order management, payments, and variation controls.
  • Manage a team of Group Surveying Managers to perform reviews of site start budgets, valuations and CVR meetings, and are adhering to the correct processes and procedure for subcontractor final accounts.
  • Review collected cost information and the support provided by the Group Surveying Managers to Divisional and Regional Commercial teams, ensuring they are leveraging cost benchmarking analyses to influence viability budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure that Group Surveying Managers are participating in Divisional valuation meetings to carry out independent audit reviews, employing expertise to ensure alignment with Group Commercial guidelines during CVR execution.
  • Supporting the Group Business Systems Managers in the completion of rigorous testing of new IT systems to ensure the stability and functionality of the Company's Commercial and Financial systems.
  • Provide knowledge and support to Group Surveying Managers so that this knowledge is disseminated to Quantity Surveyors, Buyers, and Commercial teams, ensuring effective utilisation of the Company's Commercial IT systems.
  • Ensure that training documentation produced by Group Surveying Managers to support Quantity Surveyors and Buyers in their tasks is maintained consistently and delivered effectively.
  • Ensure that regular reviews and updates to subcontractor trade specifications and works agreements, are performed by members of the Group Surveying Manager team aligning with industry standards and are updated to the shared folder locations and Commercial Support website.
  • Foster effective communication within Divisional Commercial teams and other functional teams to enhance collaboration and efficiency.
  • Ensure that Group Surveying Managers are in regular contact with their allocated Divisions to assess support requirements, documenting and reporting outcomes to the Commercial Director.
  • Ensure that accurate evaluation and documentation of contract awards carrying high-risk components in the HRCAR register is completed by the Group Surveying Managers. Contracts exceeding £5 million, which involve groundworks, are subject to assessment by the Group Groundworks Manager. Ensure that Group Surveying Managers conduct investigations into groundworks orders surpassing £5 million to validate their alignment with the submission to the Groundworks Manager concerning value and specifications

 Qualifications and Skills:
  • Proven expertise in IT systems, particularly COINS, demonstrating effective utilisation.
  • Strong numerical skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to interpret and present cost data analyses to senior management.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, thriving in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • Methodical approach, combining meticulous attention to detail with outstanding organisational skills to consistently deliver high-quality results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at building effective relationships both internally and externally.
  • Confident in presenting information to diverse audiences.
  • Self-directed in workload management within a team setting, exhibiting autonomy and prioritisation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Possession of a valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme card.
  • Must hold a full, clean Driver's License, as regular travel to divisional offices and construction sites is required.
