What you'll be doing?

Barratt Redrow PLC are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Quantity Surveyor experience to join the well-established Building Safety Unit and progress the portfolio of developments requiring remediation.  
 
Reporting to the Commercial Manager and, in partnership with the BSU technical, construction, PMO and commercial teams, you will be responsible for the commercial and surveying responsibilities for multiple remediation projects across the UK. 
 
Your responsibilities will be:
  • The collation of information in conjunction with the Barratt BSU and Divisional Technical teams,
  • Liaison with BSU and divisional commercial teams in order to prepare budgets and governance papers,
  • Preparation of contractual notices and associated external communications,
  • Monitoring progress and providing regular updates to BSU Commercial Manager and Board of Directors,
  • Effectively manage costs for the projects in conjunction with appointed consultants and contractors, and ensure targets are met by managing and controlling the budget and valuations, including monthly updating of the estimated final costs through cost and value reconciliations.
  • Compile budgets, liaising with all departments to ensure document is completed on time to allow submission of approval papers.
  • Prepare tenders and procure Consultants and Main Contractors using Group & BSU Procedures, assessing capability and capacity across the BSU Portfolio. Evaluation of tender submissions, and review recommendations for contract awards.
  • Responsible for managing all procedures and processes, whilst always ensuring compliance with Group Policies and Procedures. Process orders, payments and variations, using Excel and Group payment system (COINS) in line with Group policy and procedures
  • Be responsible for the compilation of all weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as required. Compile and present valuations at Divisional valuation meetings
  • Maintain budget control throughout development; and manage cost overruns within contingency levels. Evaluate and agree variations and instructions, always aware of budgetary constraints, and ensuring that approval is obtained prior to agreement of variations in excess of the respective allowances.
  • Attend all project and team meetings as required, and present the Commercial position to the meeting
  • Analyse and report on costs and cash flow using the support systems available
  • Complete any other duties as reasonably required by the Commercial Director and/or Manager.
  • Promote and act in accordance with Group values, systems, policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with Group IT systems

To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
  • MRICS / FRICS desirable 
  • Qualified to HND level or higher with a valid CSCS card
  • Must have a full understanding of current market conditions and rates
  • Ability to interpret contracts and build legal arguments 
  • Experience in the management of external legal representatives & other consultants
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills with an ability to interact at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to work at pace to execute business objectives
  • Must be able to control cost to complete on all projects and on all provisions to ensure live cost certainly
  • Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail, able to gather, interpret and present data to facilitate preparation of budgets and subsequent valuations
  • Methodical, conscientious and organised, works to deliver high standards
  • Strong IT skills, working knowledge of computer systems within the commercial environment, i.e. project management/payment and valuation software
  • Articulate, clear and credible, and able to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to contribute towards the resolution of disputes, problems and cost issues
  • Able to work on own initiative, with the drive to take ownership of projects
  • Team player, and supportive of colleagues
