What you'll be doing?

Reporting to the Technical and Innovation Director, this role involves the management of a Technical & Innovation Team and/or external consultants, assess and develop technical specifications to meet future regulations, assess energy efficiency, maintain support for Divisions existing regulations, manage research projects, support on customer complaints, planning conditions and support Group Sustainability on CR reporting.
 
You will:
  • Inform the business of potential future changes, ensuring Sales, Land, Technical, Construction and Commercial Teams are provided with the support and guidance needed.
  • Provide the business view on future regulation in industry wide forums. Sharing knowledge and ensuring BDW are at the forefront.
  • Work with the relevant teams to design, develop and support any new initiatives associated with energy efficiency.
  • Manage specification changes, delivering robust cost-effective solutions working with relevant Group Departments.
  • To provide Divisional offices with standard Group solutions and assist in implementing technical strategies throughout the organisation.
  • Manage all technical queries associated with compliance, analysing and evaluating queries in detail.
  • Take responsibility to evaluate current specifications and identify areas of improvement and cost savings.
  • Ensure current issues are addressed, considering our business model  and commercial sensitivity.
  • Liaise at all levels of the business both internally and external.  Participating in both internal and external research and development projects to share best practice across the industry and with our competitors.
  • Develop, manage and facilitate ‘sandpits’ annually. More broadly develop and deliver workshops as and when required.
  • To ensure all standard energy/overheating calculations are delivered as required and on time.
  • Brief, manage and drive external consultants in the preparation and issue of production information to an agreed programme, fee and scope.
  • Workings with external third-party certified bodies and the associated Divisional Teams.
  • Review, manage and advise Divisions on customer complaints.
  • Offer Divisions an alternative technical and commercially viable options to assist in removal of planning conditions.
  • Managing the expectations of the local authorities and delivering alternative cost-effective solution to satisfy local planning requirements which align with Barratt Redrow ethos.
  • Providing review papers and presentations to support business updates and decisions.
  • Assist with CR reporting and benchmarking projects.

To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
  • Qualified Architectural or Building Physics Technician/Technologist to HNC level as a minimum with at least 10 years’ experience.
  • An excellent knowledge of other types of construction, in particular timber frame.
  • Good organisation and team management skills.
  • A good technical knowledge of current regulations and associated legislation.
  • An excellent team motivator with the drive and tenacity to achieve the goals of the business.
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • An eloquent communicator interfacing with Divisional teams, sites and regulatory bodies.
  • Aware of costs and customer focused.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems effectively and autonomously
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
