What you'll be doing?

Gladman Developments are the UK’s most active and successful land promoter based in Congleton, Cheshire.  With over 30 years’ experience in achieving planning permissions, our team have years of professional experience and a wide range of industry contacts, from central government, local councils, professional consultants to major housebuilders.

We partner with landowners to bring forward development opportunities through the planning system. 

Working within the Planning & Projects department to support the wider team on a range of technical matters to de-risk projects, minimise objections during the planning application period and to ensure a deliverable scheme at the disposal stage.  You will assist with formulating the technical and engineering strategy for sites and addressing technical matters that arise throughout the planning application process.  You will also be involved with the disposal of consented sites with the aim of achieving best value and minimising conditionality to bids.

You will be expected to: 
  • Providing advice on a range of technical subjects to the wider business.
  • Providing guidance to our technical consultants and the planning / projects team.
  • Advising the land team on technical constraints affecting new land opportunities.
  • Supporting the team to address complex technical matters throughout the life of the project, from initial masterplanning, addressing statutory consultee objections to resolving any post approval residual technical issues prior to the land sale.
  • Coordinating the disposal marketing information and coordination of a dataroom.
  • Addressing technical queries from developers during the marketing period and attending developer interviews.
  • Stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Reviewing reports produced by external consultants, providing feedback and final sign off.
  • Undertaking site visits and attending meetings with landowners, agents and local authority officers where necessary.
  • Effective management of workload and keeping to task deadlines.

To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
 
  • Degree in Engineering or Science equivalent preferred but not essential
  • 5+ years' experience, ideally in consultancy or housebuilding
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policy
  • Proven experience in the resolution of technical issues
  • The ability to formulate and implement clear strategies for dealing with technical matters, with limited input from senior colleagues.
  • Experience of managing consultants, in particular ground investigations.
  • Excellent data analysis and information management skills
  • Have good IT skills using a multitude of software packages (Microsoft suite, AutoCAD etc.)
  • Ability to work well in multi-disciplinary teams, building effective working relationships
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet strict deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, including technical report writing skills and the ability to communicate to different audiences.
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Effective time management.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • Current and full driver's license (travelling will be required to sites)
