What you'll be doing?
Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships.

Reporting to the IT Quality Assurance Manager, you will be responsible for defining and executing the testing activities for software solutions. 
 
You will be expected to:
  • Define and execute the testing activities for software solutions, including system testing, integration testing, performance testing and supporting UAT.
  • Be responsible for test planning.
  • Prepare test scripts and test data ready for the execution of testing activities in the relevant environments.
  • Write and execute SQL to assess the data required for testing.
  • Organise and confirm the setup of the environments needed for testing, compiling and validating test data where required.
  • Execute test scripts in the relevant environments.
  • Be responsible for preparing testing status reports.
  • Prepare and maintain activity schedules, written reports, and visual progress charts where required.
  • Update the IT Quality Assurance Manager regularly regarding the status of testing activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, support and mentoring to junior IT Quality Assurance team members and drive continuous improvement.
What you'll need?
To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
  • Experience of testing in a complex commercial environment such as Barratt, plus should hold the relevant external qualifications (BCS, ISTQB or equivalent).
  • Good technical knowledge of testing mainstream development solutions (.net, C#, VB, JAVA, Javascript etc), operating systems (UNIX, Windows etc), relational databases (MSSQL, DB2, Oracle etc) and APIs.
  • Experience of working closely with task and defect tracking tools such as JIRA or Microsoft Azure DevOps.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and work within tight timescales without compromising the end result.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and promote best practice throughout the team by leading skills workshops etc.
  • Experience of working closely and building relationships with senior business stakeholders, 3rd parties and external partners.
  • Proficient in writing and executing SQL.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong decision-making ability.
  • Attention to detail.
Desirable Experience: 
  • Experience of using Test Automation tools and writing automated test scripts.
  • Experience of distributed software version control systems such as GIT.
  • Knowledge of testing Enterprise Service Bus solutions (SONIC, Jitterbit etc).
  • Experience of working within a range of different solution delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid etc).
