What you'll be doing?
Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships.
 
While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.
 
Reporting to the Group Technical Innovation Manageryou will work as part of the Group Technical and Innovation Team in a diverse role, to support the team in delivering flagship zero carbon solutions. You will be part of the Group Technical and Innovation Team that supports our Zero Carbon Agenda by applying Innovative technologies and processes. Assisting with continual improvements to what we build, promoting technical Zero Carbon solutions, increasing the knowledge in the divisional offices and site teams. Take technologies from concept through to testing on live sites and then final application. Be part of a diverse team that are working with leading Blue Chip Companies and Universities to consider innovations in smart technology, renewables, heating & hot water, water efficiency and battery storage.
 
You will:
  • Assist the Group Technical & Innovation Team in their delivery of standard solutions, bespoke site advice, new product analysis, Carbon Reduction and benchmarking projects and the delivery of large scale projects, including specifically:

    • Support our internal flagship research and development programme to deliver future Regulations, including The Future Homes and Building Standard and Zero Carbon targets.
    • Continually review opportunities to improve fabric thermal performance to deliver cost-effective solutions to Building Regulation requirements
    • Working with and supporting divisions on all relevant Policy & Regulation changes and where required working with them to develop bespoke solutions to local requirements
    • Working with the team to deliver day to day management and progress of specific large scale projects and Group standard specification implementation across the business, monitoring, coordinating tasks and regularly reporting on progress
    • Providing the necessary technical information/support to assist our Group Sustainability in the production of the Annual Sustainability Report, and to external benchmarks such as Next Generation
    • Work and support our Group Construction, Procurement, Sales and Commercial team in developing robust and effective solutions to meet the new Zero Carbon Regulations across the United Kingdom. 


What you'll need?
To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
  • Knowledgeable and interested in Innovation within the technical aspects of housebuilding
  • An understanding or passion to learn the housebuilding process and Building Regulations, with a particular emphasis on the Technical Function
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Able to view issues from both a site and high-level, Group-wide perspective, and maintain a commercial focus
  • Communication skills including report writing, presenting and ability to build relationships
  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined – able to work unsupervised, often remotely from other team members
  • Ideally the candidate must have a level of experience within the construction and housebuilding sector
    • Ideally holding relevant qualifications such as:
      • Construction/architectural undergraduate/postgraduate degree
      • HNC/HND Construction and the Built Environment or similar
      • Consideration will be given to qualifications being obtained in conjunction with the role
