What you'll be doing?

Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships.

While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.

Reporting to the Group Head of HR, Policy & Reward, you will develop and promote our Health and Wellbeing Strategy and provide dedicated focus to our strategic Health and Wellbeing activity, in order to meet increasing demand, particularly in relation to mental health support across the business. This will require taking a lead in supporting the wider business on all health and wellbeing matters, acting as the strategic business partner and subject matter expert (SME) in this field.

You will be expected to:

  • Develop, implement and proactively promote the Group Health and Wellbeing strategy ensuring increasing demand for support, particularly in relation to mental health support, is met across the business
  • Work with the Head of Diversity & Inclusion in relation to building and maintaining a culture that supports and embraces mental health challenges
  • Deliver our commitment to the Building Mental Health Charter and Building Mental Health Framework
  • Manage both the Group Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) and the Health and Wellbeing Champion Networks,  including setting up training, induction, a robust support plan, hosting ¼ MHFA network meetings
  • Create and communicate the annual Health and Wellbeing calendar with agreed national events
  • Design and produce awareness collateral and monthly H&WB communications (newsletters, posters, concertina cards videos, digital) in conjunction with the Head of Employee Communications
  • Own and develop content on Health and Wellbeing Hub on the intranet (Our Place) and the employee benefits platform (Zest and My Barratt Benefits)
  • Ensure appropriate H&WB / Mental Health related training / webinars / education, working with L&D team and external partners, including to ensure MH training for cohorts e.g. Armed Forces, Grads, Apprentices
  • Align our wellbeing support on site, in conjunction with the Group SHE Manager
  • Design and deliver new wellbeing initiatives e.g. flu vaccination roll out
  • Maximise support from external partners to support our Health and Wellbeing Strategy i.e. Lighthouse, MHFAE (in conjunction with Group HR/Group Risk).
  • Support our Employer Brand by ensuring the promotion of our H&WB activity on our social media channels
  • Provide and evaluate MI to further define areas of focus for future activity / support
  • Input on the Employee Engagement survey in respect of content on H&WB
  • Work closely with the Group Risk team and Group HR on Group Risk Benefits, education and training availability, and Flexible benefits
  • Provide regular updates to the Executive and SHE Committees on Strategic reviews, future activity and areas of focus
  • Manage construction site H&WB Hub (notice board) content
  • Co-ordinate the Group’s mandatory Mates In Mind ‘Manage the Conversation’ training
  • Represent the Company as an active member of the HBF Mental Health Group
  • Further build and maintain the Macmillan partnership links with DIS Benefits and Macmillan training
  • Liaise with HR Ops to ensure any communications required are cascaded to HR Ops and/or HRCs, and attend HR Ops meetings or HRC calls (as managed by HR Ops) as required
What you'll need?

To be successful in the role, we are looking for:

  • Educated to degree level and/or CIPD qualified/ membership, or equivalent vocational qualification in occupational health and safety and membership of an equivalent professional body
  • Extensive HR and/or Health and Wellbeing knowledge and experience, including project management and
  • Extensive experience in a middle management role with the breadth required, or subject matter expert role, influencing decisions and advising key decision makers
  • Detailed working knowledge of the broad range of existing, new and emergent Health and Wellbeing legislation, HSE Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes.
  • Proven track record in managing projects with excellent planning and coordinating skills to develop and implement events and activities across the organisation.
  • Previous experience in strategy/policy development and deployment in a large, complex organisation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven relationship management at middle/senior management level, with influencing abilities
  • Ability to think analytically, to articulate issues, highly organised, a strong communicator and attention to detail
  • Able to establish annual frameworks for activity and have the ability to manage budgets
  • High level of customer orientation
  • A team player who strives to actively help others
  • Proactive, self-motivated
  • Excel proficiency would be advantageous
  • Experience of the construction industry would be an advantage
