What you'll be doing?
Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships.

Reporting to the Head of Internal Audit, you will manage and deliver a portfolio of internal audits across Barratt Developments PLC in order to provide independent assurance over the existence of effective and efficient policies, procedures and internal controls.
 
You will also assist in developing the internal audit team’s approach for risk based assurance, and support the Group Head of Internal Audit in developing a testing strategy for UK SOX. 
 
You will be expected to:
  • Manage the delivery of high quality risk based planning, fieldwork and reporting of internal audits across the group and in line with the agreed internal audit plan
  • Deliver ad hoc assurance work at the request of the Group Head of Internal Audit and/or management, including project assurance and responding to ad hoc support requested from key stakeholders
  • Develop key relationships with stakeholders across the group, up to Executive Committee level, owning and developing these relationships in order to become a trusted business partner
  • Identify risks over which to provide independent assurance and recommend and agree actions with management to assist in driving improvements in the group’s processes and controls.
  • Support the Internal Controls Manager in the development of the group wide internal controls framework, in anticipation of the implementation of a UK SOX regulation
  • Act as an independent business partner to group functions including Finance, HR, Sustainability and Sales in order to assist in the identification of risks and assurance over the development and implementation of key internal controls
  • Share best practice from precious experience and across the group
  • Perform robust and professional independent whistle blowing investigations at the request of the Group Head of Internal Audit
  • Assist in the development of the internal audit function as we look to improve our audit approach and develop the future of our risk based assurance
  • Lead the development of the strategy of an internal controls assurance programme in advance of the potential future implementation of UK SOX 
  • Perform divisional and site audits on ad hoc basis where business needs exist 
 
What you'll need?
To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
  • ACA/ACCA/CIA
  • Big 4 experience
  • > 8 years external/internal audit experience
  • Experience in a large multi-site corporate business
  • Prior external or internal audit experience of auditing the following areas:
    • Finance
    • Human Resources
    • Procurement
    • Sustainability/Climate Change
    • Legal and compliance
    • Sales and Marketing
  • SOX / Internal Controls assurance experience
  • Strong business acumen, a curiosity to question and challenge the status quo
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excels at stakeholder management skills and adept at building open, honest and robust with confidence to discuss issues with senior management in a positive and supportive manner
  • Self-starter, personal accountability, proven ability of working independently to deliver
  • Strong time management skills to manage portfolio of audit assignments deliver audit assignments on time
  • Influencing skills and ability to use judgement to make decisions
