What you'll be doing?
Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR,Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships.
While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.

The Corporate Sustainability team promote the sustainability of our business by providing insight and connecting teams so we that can drive those environmental and social aims that make will a difference at the national level and to future generations.

We scan the horizon internally and externally, utilising world class expertise to provide the right solutions, with the aim of bringing teams together and driving the delivery of priorities. Collaboration and cooperation is central to how we work.

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability Delivery you will successfully drive a consistent approach for the delivery of sustainability projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with the company’s Sustainability Framework, business priorities and operational activities. You will be expected to manage the performance of the framework by developing, implementing, monitoring, and measuring a comprehensive programme of initiatives. In order to deliver on this remit, you will be proactive in leading the engagement with internal stakeholders in all function groups and divisions, as well as external assurance providers and technical experts.

You will be expected to:

  • Define and manage a roadmap for sustainability reporting and KPIs in line with the sustainability strategy and framework, by collaborating with Group and Divisional functions to monitor and measure the impact of a comprehensive programme of initiatives that will ensure the business meets its commitments and targets.
  • Drive the processes and business requirements that will secure ongoing performance of the framework and support the embedding of these in core operational activities.
  • Drive the tracking & performance management of sustainability priorities by:
  • Developing, embedding, and driving a process for a regular rhythm of reporting for all internal and external sustainability KPIs, and preparing reports and trend analyses to aid business decision making.
  • Driving the performance of each KPI to ensure the Company stays on track with its targets and commitments, ensuring that any new obligations are understood and incorporated into the framework.
  • Managing supply chain engagement and integrating supplier data into the company’s sustainability reporting.
  • Working with Group and Divisional teams to ensure the business has the right insights to drive appropriate decision making in line with the Company’s priorities, principles and values.
  • Developing and implementing training for colleagues to embed new processes and ways of working.
  • Developing and implementing activities that will continuously improve the visibility, consistency and viability of sustainability data and insights.
  • Supporting the ongoing work to automate reporting including by providing data, preparing reports and contributing to cross functional work groups.
  • Leading and managing the external assurance process for Sustainability KPIs and ensuring the business is implementing best practice in this area.
  • Project management of framework and business projects by developing appropriate project plans, producing feasibility and technical analyses of technologies and initiatives, and supporting the development of financial business cases and operational implementation plans.
  • Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans that will secure and leverage commitment and support for the business’ sustainability ambitions internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with internal and external communications teams to ensure the Company is able to effectively communicate its position and performance on sustainability.
  • Support the Head of Sustainability Delivery to ensure the voice of the customer drives decision making within the Group, by providing high quality customer data and insights to the business.
What you'll need?

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Educational / professional background in engineering / finance / sciences desirable
  • Be an organised and effective programme and project manager.
  • Have the ability to work proactively and autonomously.
  • Be an excellent communicator, able to work with all levels of the organisation including senior stakeholders.
  • Be able to build strong relationships with stakeholders so as to develop an effective network of advocates for the sustainability programme.
  • Be a collaborative worker, open minded and able to listen to other points of view.
  • Identify risks and opportunities and contribute effectively to the sustainability aims of the organisation.
  • Demonstrate professional curiosity and be able to think creatively, questioning conventional practices and ways of working.
  • Demonstrate a deep interest in scanning the external horizon for best practice and be able to present this to back to the business effectively. 
  • Be passionate about creating a sustainable future for the business, understanding the impact this role will have on the UK sustainability agenda and therefore the global sustainable development goals.
  • Be highly numerate with strong analytical skills
  • Be able to create high quality, succinct communication materials autonomously
